What are PCR Tyres

PCR tyres or Passenger Car Radial tyres is a important segment of our product portfolio. This is also called as Car Tyres as commonly as they are mainly used for cars, SUVs.

PLT tyres includes both PCR and Light commercial vehicle tyres. The PLT tyres is a notch below the TBR tyres as PLT is semi steel tyre which results in a smoother and lighter riding experience.

The common PCR tyre segment sizes are 185/65R14, 195/70R15, 235/75R15, 215/60R16, 225/65R17, 225/45R18, 255/60R19, 275/55R20 etc.

PCR tyre types

PCR tyres are manufactured specifically for cars, SUVs, 4x4s, vans . They usually have different tread patterns and are optimised for certain seasons, driving styles and requirements.

Summer tyres

Also known as standard tyres ( most commonly sold). They are manufactured with softer compounds and optimised for operating in temperature in excess of 7 degrees. The softer compounds enhance grip and stability.

Winter Tyres

Tyres manufactured with compounds geared to provide traction and grip in cold and snowy conditions. The tyres remain flexible under low temperatures due to the silica added to the rubber compounds. They also have a totally different tread pattern to handle snow.

All Season tyres

All season tyres are manufactured with a blend of summer and winter tyre compounds. These are not really optimised for any one typical operating temperatures.
Run Flat Tyres – are designed to with thicker, reinforced sidewalls as compared to regulat tyres. This enables them to run for some distance in the unfortunate event of a puncture or flat tyre.

Tyres are also classifieds on the basis of tyre tread pattern which is arrangement of channels, groves, spies and blocks. Each tread pattern has its own pros and cons. Tread pattern is normally of 3 kinds

Asymmetric Tyres

Optimised to provide cornering ability and grip

Directional Tyres

For protection against aquaplaining , best for winter tyres, directional stability and low noise.

Symmertical tyres

Symmertical tyres also called multi directional tyres. Best for urban driving conditions, good grip and road holding performance. Not optimised for wet conditions.
